Trapping High Magnetic Field in Tubular Stacked Coated Conductors

Abstract:In this study, we report details of the field trapped by tubular stacked coated conductors. We fabricated tubular magnets consisting of stacks of ring-shaped coated conductors (CC) cut by laser. One of tubular magnets with the inner diameter 7 mm, outer diameter 12 mm, and height 20.8 mm by stacking 450 pieces of YBCO CCs with MgO point defects successfully trapped 8.987 T at the center of the magnet at 6 K. By cooling the temperature down to 4 K right after the field trapping, we have succeeded in suppressing the relaxation of the trapped field to less than 9 G after 1 h. Field homogeneity ΔB(z)/B(0) as small as 0.05%/mm has been achieved, which is three times better than the ordinary SC magnet when we normalize the dimension of magnets.
