Abstract:Aviation market has been expanding continuously and aircraft are taking off every seconds today. However, the greenhouse gas emission from these aircraft should be reduced in the future. One of the effective solution is to employ electrified aircraft propulsion systems.
Electrified aircraft propulsion systems demand over 16 kW/kg electric motors, while 5 kW/kg current permanent magnet synchronous motor is realized. To obtain higher output density motors, superconducting technology is one of the most effective solutions.
We are going to design two kinds of superconducting motors: fully superconducting type and conventional type under unified design conditions. And finally, we are going to compare and discuss the electromagnetic characteristics: output density, efficiency, etc… of two kinds of superconducting motors.
