Abstract:We propose a new sheath architecture of SUS/Ag double sheath and show that the use of a double sheath is effective for improving the Jc-H performance. The Jc-H curves for rolled and pressed tapes both show extremely small magnetic field dependence and exceed 30000A/cm-2 under 28 T, which are much higher than those of low-temperature superconductors. We are now doing optimization of processing conditions and very recently succeeded in achieving the practical level of 100000 A/cm-2(10 T). The microstructure investigations indicate that such high Jc was achieved by higher density and uniform deformation resulting better texturing. We believe that this simple and scalable process is very promising for fabricating long length Ba122 wires for high field magnets.
