The critical current properties of high performance Internal Mg diffusion (IMD)-processed MgB2 wires

Abstract:We used special B powder (plasma-synthesized 2% C coated B powder from Special Materials Inc.) with Dimethylbenzene addition to fabricate internal Mg diffusion (IMD)-processed MgB2 wires with different filaments. We obtained high critical current properties. The critical current density (Jc) value of 1.2 X 105 A/cm2 and the engineering critical current density (Je) value of 0.8 X 104 A/cm2 @ 4.2 K & 10 T was obtained for the mono-filamentary wire with Ta barriers and Cu-Ni sheath, and the Jc value of 1.1 X 105 A/cm2 and Je value of 1 X 104 A/cm2 @ 4.2 K & 10 T was achieved for the Fe-sheathed mono-filamentary wire.
