Abstract:The transport current density and its time evolution in HTS tape conductors are important for power cable applications, especially for reliable performance during normal load conditions and during fault conditions as overcurrent. A scanning Hall probe system was made to measure the magnetic fields around BSCCO and YBCO tape conductors and copper normal tape conductor to study the transport current properties. After a short overcurrent is applied to different tape conductors, the magnetic fields above the tape conductors at different positions are measured and show different behaviors between superconducting and normal conductors. For the copper tape conductor, the magnetic field is almost the constant. On the other hand, the magnetic fields above BSCCO and YBCO tape conductors show a similar behavior and are changing with time and the stabilizing time of the magnetic field is about 1000 second after the current is applied.
