Inertane tube pulse tube refrigerator with step-piston compressor

Abstract:In an inertance tube pulse tube refrigerator, the phase angle difference between the pressure waves in the compression space and the buffer is about 180 degrees. If the simple piston type compressor is replaced by a step piston type compressor which has two compression space, and one compression space is connected to the after cooler, one is connected to the buffer, then the compression space which is connected to the buffer can recover expansion work. The theory efficiency of this type pulse tube refrigerator is same as Stirling refrigerator if the inertance tube is no loss. In this paper, a numerical simulation is done which shown that this type refrigerator is effective near room temperature, and also effective at 77K.
