Abstract:We developed an accurate, efficient and flexible modeling method for the steady-state and transient analysis of grid-connected superconducting synchronous machines. The accuracy and efficiency of the model is obtained by the combination of the finite element model and the phase-domain model. We show how to calculate the machine nonlinear matrix inductance and electromagnetic torque from finite element analysis and how to use it to define an accurate model of the superconducting machine. The flexibility of the method is demonstrated by simulating a superconducting wind turbine generator connected to the grid through an AC/DC/AC converter.
