Abstract:Coated conductors are a promising candidate for the construction of NMR magnets above 1 GHz. In order to study the effect of the residual magnetization on the field homogeneity and the temporal stability required for NMR operation, a small coil (layer wound, 18 mm internal diameter, 34 mm external diameter and 29 mm height) generating up to 1.5 T have been constructed using YBCO coated conductor. The residual magnetizations induced by the external magnetic field (generated by a 15T superconducting magnet) and by the self field were measured in separate experiments. The remanent magnetization in self field can reach 400 Gauss and the relaxation time was found to be comparable to the ones published for Bi2223 coils. A finite element modelisation was used to describe the experimental results.
