Abstract:Coated conductors are a promising candidate for the construction of NMR magnets above 1 GHz. In contrast to ordinary multifilamentary wires, in coated conductors the superconducting material consists of a single layer, and large magnetisation currents can be induced by the applied magnetic field. The magnetization of short coils (minimum volume) and long coils (geometry similar to NMR coil) have been measured at 77 K and 4.2 K. In the long coils the magnetization is much smaller than in the minimum volume coils, and it should not represent an issue for the NMR operation.
