Development of High-Temperature Superconductors for Practical Applications

Abstract:This talk will focus on recent studies on YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) and MgB2 that are improving flux pinning and Jc for practical applications. It will discuss the different chemistries, microstructures, and electromagnetic behavior of pinning centers that can be formed in YBCO coated conductor made using pulsed laser deposition and metal-organic decomposition methods. Doping studies aimed at increasing Hc2 in MgB2 and processing studies to understand what limits connectivity and how to increase it in MgB2 to improve Jc will be discussed.
