Enhanced in-field critical current densities in YSZ-mixed YBa2Cu3O7-x films

Abstract: We induced linear artificial pinning centers (APCs) in YBCO films using a surface-modified target: a thin YSZ sector was set on the YBCO target, and thin films were ablated by PLD on SrTiO3 buffered MgO single crystals. Using a wide YSZ sector (corresponding to about 0.33 Vol%) on YBCO target, we fabricated high quality YBCO+YSZ mixed thin films. In comparison with a pure YBCO film, the effect of APCs was an enhancement of Jc at 77K for mixed YBCO+YSZ thin film from 1.46 MA/cm2 to 1.86 MA/ cm2 (H=0T) and from 0.09MA/ cm2 to 0.28MA/ cm2 (H=5T, B//c) even when both films were prepared on the same deposition conditions.
