Abstract : We have reported on self field 3D numerical calculation of Eddy current loss in twisted filament tapes. In this paper we present our result for applied external field. Self field eddy current loss decreases inversely with the filament twist pitch. Applied external field loss increases linearly with the filament twist pitch and with the square of applied field amplitude. From our calculation results an optimum twist pitch to minimize AC losses in HTS tapes is proposed. Additionally our numerical calculation shows that AC losses is lesser in circular models than in rectangular models both in self field and applied external field.
