Abstract: The eddy current losses in circular (round wire) and rectangular tape models has been calculated by using 3D FEM software. We compared our numerical simulation results with 2D FEM numerical calculations and experimental data. Our numerical results show that the dependencies of the frequency are almost constant near commercial frequency. The self field losses in the rectangular model are higher than that in the circular model for the same volume and the same twist pitch. Simulations results show that losses are inversely proportional to the square of the twist pitch.
