Using 3D finite element method (FEM) modeling, the present work investigates the current and field distribution in twisted filament model in a resistive matrix. This effect, related to the finite length of the conductors is typical three dimensional and cannot be analyzed fully by the widely used 2D models. The magnetic field penetration is examined in all three planes for detail understanding of eddy current loss in the model. With FEM analysis we were able to evaluate the eddy current distribution across the resistive matrix of the modeled tape and to compute the corresponding AC loss.
