Using 3D finite element method (FEM) modeling, the present workinvestigates the current and field distribution in twisted filamentmodel in a resistive matrix. This effect, related to the finite lengthof the conductors is typical three dimensional and cannot be analyzedfully by the widely used 2D models. The magnetic field penetration isexamined in all three planes for detail understanding of eddy currentloss in the model. With FEM analysis we were able to evaluate the eddycurrent distribution across the resistive matrix of the modeled tape andto compute the corresponding AC loss.
