The self field eddy current loss in twisted HTS tapes has been calculated by using commercial 3D FEM software (Maxwell 3D). Previous studies have been done for non-twisted HTS tapes, which is only possible with 2D FEM software. We investigated the effect of width, thickness, aspect ratio and resistivity on eddy current loss in rectangular (flat) tapes with each twist pitch. We compared our simulated result with previous 2D FEM results and theoretically calculated eddy current loss.
