Design and fabrication of a 100V/10A saturated DC reactor type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL)

  We have designed and constructed a single-phase saturated DC reactor type SFCL in the range of 100V and 10A ratings. The ferrite core type FT-3H from Hitachi of maximum flux density 1.23T has been chosen for constructing the DC reactor. In the DC reactor two windings: the main winding and the control winding, consists of low temperature superconductor. One more winding consists of few turns of copper wire has been provided across the core in order to measure total flux. A temperature sensor is placed on the surface of the main winding for reading the liquid helium temperature. The design of the SFCL is done in such way so that both the coil and the core need to immerge in liquid helium for using readily available cryostat.
